His Majesty, COVID-19 positive test

Buckingham Palace announced this morning that the Queen has tested positive for COVID-19 and that Her Majesty is suffering from "mild cold-like symptoms."

"Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen has tested positive for Covid today," the Palace said in a brief statement released Sunday morning. The Queen is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms and is expected to continue her light duties at Windsor for the next week."

The statement concluded, "The Queen will continue to seek medical attention and follow all appropriate guidelines."

The Queen's diagnosis follows her son Prince Charles' second bout with COVID earlier this month, and shortly after his diagnosis, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also tested positive.

Her Majesty last met Prince Charles at Windsor Castle on February 8, two days before he was diagnosed with COVID. After Prince Charles' diagnosis, PEOPLE magazine reported that the Queen was being monitored, but that she herself was not showing any symptoms. Four days after Prince Charles' diagnosis, Lady Camilla also tested positive.

PEOPLE reported that Her Majesty the Queen had an official visit to Windsor Castle last week that included a meeting with two senior military officers.

Her Majesty is believed to be fully vaccinated; she will turn 96 in April.
