Experts see hope for reconciliation between Prince William and Prince Harry

Since Prince Harry's shock decision to step down from active royalty in January 2020, he and his brother Prince William have met publicly only twice: first at the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip in April 2021 and then in the summer at the unveiling of a statue of their mother, Princess Diana. Tensions between the siblings have persisted for the past two years, reportedly dating back to the early days of Harry's relationship with his wife Meghan Markle.

However, according to one expert, hope is being found in the subtle signs that William is willing to patch things up with Harry, even though the brothers reportedly still have a long way to go before they are fully reconciled.

In December, William joined the Apple Fitness Time to Walk podcast, where he shared wistful memories of his late mother, Princess Diana. As he reminisced, he recalled how he and Harry would ride in the car together and hum Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" with their mother.

The Mirror reported that William's choice of this particular memory may have been an olive branch extended to Harry.

"We have to hope that even a casual word here and there from William will act as a small signal to Harry," royal expert Duncan Larcombe is OK! Royal expert Duncan Larcombe seems to be saying, "OK! Let's resolve this. As brother and sister, William is fully aware that things have to be resolved."

However, depending on Harry's forthcoming memoir, hopes for reconciliation may wane, according to Larcombe, whose memoir, to be published later this year, may prevent a full resolution of the sibling discord.

"Whether or not he will condemn his father and brother in the book, and how strongly, remains to be seen. It's hard to imagine what will happen, but until that book hits the stores, the stalemate is likely to continue."

It is not clear when William and Harry will see each other again as Harry attempts to regain the protection of the royal police while in the UK. Harry was expected to visit the UK to attend Philip's memorial service at Westminster Abbey on March 29, but it remains to be seen if Harry will attend, as Harry has stated that he "does not feel safe" visiting the UK with the current security arrangements.
