Read MoreMila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher launched a high-profile fundraising campaign for Kunis' native Ukraine a few days ago, pledging to match donations up to $3 million.
As of this writing, their GoFundMe campaign is still accepting donations and has raised an incredible $18 million (including $3 million from the famous couple) for Ukraine, which has been under attack from Russia since February 24. As another way to help the people of Ukraine, "Marie Claire" has compiled a list of nonprofits and organizations in need of assistance.
The two actors recorded a video statement to launch the fundraising effort, explaining why the cause is personal to them.
"I was born in 1983 in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. I came to the U.S. in 1991." I love everything this country has done for myself and my family. But today, I have never been more proud to be Ukrainian."
Kutcher commented, "And I have never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian."
Kunis continued, "The events that have unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for such unjustified attacks against humanity." [And Kutcher added, "While we witness the bravery of the people of the country of her birth, we also see the needs of those who have chosen safety. We are raising funds to support immediate relief efforts and supply much needed refugee and humanitarian aid to the area."
[12The couple reposted this statement on Kutcher's Instagram, where well-known followers applauded the effort. Reese Witherspoon wrote, "Donate now!" and Jenna Dewan wrote, "Amazing!" wrote, and emojis of the Ukrainian flag abounded.
Their fundraising efforts on behalf of GoFundMe.org will benefit Airbnb.org, which provides housing to Ukrainian refugees, and Flexport.org, which organizes the transportation of goods to refugees.
Kunis and Kutcher are just two of many celebrities who have expressed their support for Ukraine. Gigi Hadid recently pledged to use her Fashion Month earnings to help Ukraine, royalty, including the Sussexes and the Cambridges, have issued statements of support for Ukraine, and Queen Letizia of Spain has donned a vysivanka (a traditional Ukrainian and Belarusian embroidered blouse) and expressed support in a visual way.
