"One of the most iconic looks will be her green Emilia Wickstead cape dress," Ross said on the Mirror's "Pod Save the Queen" podcast. 'The sight of that cape entering and exiting the church with the wind blowing in her face was an emotional moment for many, as it was her last formal engagement as royalty. What casual observers of Meghan's fashion may not know is that there is a deeper message behind the Duchess of Sussex's special choice of Emilia Wickstead as the designer of her finale look. Ross explained that there is a "complicated story" between Meghan and Wickstead, stemming from an interview the designer gave to a magazine.

According to Ross, Wickstead described Meghan's 2018 wedding dress (designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy) as "simple," which was quoted out of context to make readers think she was criticizing the gown used.

"It was a quote from a larger interview," Ross said. 'She didn't really say anything negative. People thought that Emilia Wickstead had demonized Meghan, but it turned out that Emilia Wickstead had not demonized Meghan. A month or so later, Princess Meghan actually wore a custom-made dress by Emilia Wickstead. With this fashion choice, she was able to say, Emilia Wickstead and I have a great relationship. We have a wonderful relationship. That one was a big misunderstanding, and look at the beautiful dress she designed for me."

In addition to being one of Princess Meghan's most memorable looks, Emilia Wickstead is a longtime royal favorite, with Kate Middleton in particular frequently wearing the designer. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, also wears Emilia Wickstead.
