Experts say both Prince William and Prince Harry feel "a lot of regret."

A year after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke of Sussex and his brother Prince William's relationship remains strained, the Mirror reports.

Speaking to OK! Duncan Larcombe said that the once best friends miss each other and that the Duke of Cambridge's falling out with his brother has become a "constant burden" for him.

"For those who know William, it is clear that the falling out with his brother is not something he can simply forget," Larcombe said. As you can imagine, it's a constant source of tension; they're both as stubborn as mules."

The rift often reportedly began over Harry's rapidly developing relationship with wife Meghan Markle, whom he met in 2016, became engaged in 2017, and married in 2018. Harry and Meghan stepped down from active royalty in January 2020, and since then the siblings have only met in person twice: at the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip in April 2021 and the unveiling of a statue of their mother Princess Diana a few months later.

"It's not nice when best friends siblings fall out," says Larcombe. 'Everyone knows what it's like to have a falling out with a best friend or sibling you were close to when you were little. You miss them. There is a lot of regret there, and I think it goes both ways."

William is rapidly approaching 40, having reached the milestone age on June 21 of this year.

"So far, everything else seems to be going well for William. He is riding the wave in most aspects of his life, but sadly there is the absence of his brother, Prince Harry, in his life," says Larcombe. 'William always has a plan for where he wants to be in five years, how he will transition from prince to husband, father, and future king. He basically checks all the boxes he set when he graduated from college, and it is deeply upsetting to him that it hasn't worked out."

"These brothers bonded over the loss of their mother. They went through that bereavement and, as is evident, dealt with it in their own ways, but were very close." Harry and William continue to have a rift every week.
