Trevor Noah Responds to Kanye West's Removal from Grammy Performance Lineup

Kanye West was recently banned from Instagram for 24 hours after posting harassing messages directed at many people, including ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, and talk show host Trevor Noah.

Since returning to Instagram, West has deleted all of his posts and his profile shows "no posts yet" at the time of writing.

And now the rapper is taking a further hit because of his social media activity: he has been removed from the list of performers at the Grammy Awards. West's representative told Variety that the ban was in response to the artist's "problematic online behavior."

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Trevor Noah wrote, "I said talk to Kanye, not cancel him."

This is in reference to Noah's previous statement on The Daily Show in which he suggested that West should seek therapy to improve his mental health (West is living with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder).

West's attacks on various public figures have escalated amid his divorce from Kim Kardashian and his developing relationship with Pete Davidson. The rapper has threatened violence against the comedian and has been part of a particularly disturbing music video.

However, Noah's latest remarks add an additional layer to this conversation: when someone with mental illness behaves badly, do we simply ban that person from participating in everything? His point is that instead of simply punishing West, we should try to help him so that he will stop attacking others. There are no simple answers to these questions, and ultimately this debate is bigger than just Kanye West, but Noah has certainly got us thinking.
