Kate Middleton sparkles in an emerald green ball gown on the last night of her trip to Jamaica.

On the Cambridges' last night in Jamaica, Kate Middleton paid homage to the flag in an emerald green ball gown.

The off-the-shoulder dress was by Jenny Packham, one of the Duchess's favorite designers, and was embellished with tulle and sequin details. The dress with tulle and sequin detailing had a cinched waist and a full skirt for the perfect princess effect.

According to InStyle, Middleton accessorized with emerald and diamond earrings and a queen bracelet.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were entertained by Governor General of Jamaica Patrick Allen and Lady Patricia Allen.

According to the Jamaica Information Service, Jamaica's flag consists of black, yellow, and green, the latter representing "hope and agricultural resources."

The choice of green for the Duchess's dress and its symbolism of hope is particularly significant in the context of the royal family's journey to the Caribbean, where controversy surrounds the royal family's ties to slavery and colonialism.

Jamaican Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna used the word "hope" twice in an op-ed in The Guardian. She wrote, "It is my hope that this Caribbean visit will stir their emotions and thoughts, and that as they ascend, they will refine their monarchical perspective with an eye toward building a more equitable and just global society."

Referring to a speech by the Duke of Cambridge, who called slavery "an abomination," Hannah wrote, "I hope this rhetoric is the beginning and not the end of their journey on issues of reparation and justice."

Jamaica, according to Harper's Bazaar, is seeking to remove the queen as head of state, and the entire country, the Caribbean, and much of the world want both an apology and action toward reparation.
