Beyonce Opens the Oscars with "Be Alive"

Thanks to the Academy for inviting Beyoncé to open the 2022 Academy Awards, the first time in five years that she has performed at the ceremony, Beyoncé opened the 94th Academy Awards with a spectacular performance of "Be Alive." The song, from "King Richard," is nominated for Best Original Song tonight.

Beyonce's performance was a fitting tribute to tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, who introduced Beyonce Sunday night. Beyoncé performed the melody live from the Compton, California court where Venus and Serena Williams hail from (the court has since been renamed after the pair), wearing a custom David Coma outfit that was inspired by a tennis ball. Her backing singers, musicians, and dancers were similarly decked out in the colors of the highlights and sang "Got all my family by my side/ And we gon' sit on the top of the world again/ Could't wipe this Black off if Ten-year-old Blue Ivy also made a cameo appearance in her mom's performance.

"Be Alive," co-written by Dixon, was nominated against Billy Eilish and the Finnies' "No Time To Die," Reba McEntire's "Somehow You Do," Sebastian Yatra's "Dos Oruguitas," and Van Morrison's "Down to Joy." nominated against. Twitter reactions to Beyonce's epic Oscars performance were as follows.
