Jada Pinkett Smith Breaks Silence After Oscars; Will Smith Apologizes to Chris Rock

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards ceremony for making a rather unfunny joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

The Smiths have now broken their silence on the matter. Jada updated her Instagram on Tuesday, saying, "This is a season of healing. She seems to have opened up the comments section only to the 124 people she follows.

Will Smith had previously taken to social media platforms to apologize to everyone involved in the incident.

His statement is as follows:

"Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes about me making fun of me are part of my job, but the jokes about Jada's medical condition were intolerable to me and I reacted emotionally.

"I want to publicly apologize, Chris. I was out of line and wrong. I am ashamed and my actions are not indicative of who I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

"I also want to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all attendees, and everyone watching around the world. I also want to apologize to the Williams Family and our King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has tarnished what has been a glamorous journey for all of us"

.

"I am a work in progress.

"Sincerely,"

"Will,"
