Princess Diana's Royal Chef Says She Didn't "Move" Like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Chef Darren McGrady, who cooked during Princess Diana's reign, believes the late royals would not have left the country as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did in 2020.

In an interview with Coffee Friend (opens in new tab), McGrady expressed sadness at the departure of the Sussex couple. The full interview was shared with Marie Claire via email.

"I think the whole world was surprised, not just me. 'It was definitely a shock. As a royal believer who has worked for the royal family for 15 years and witnessed the children playing together and getting along so well, it was sad for me. Princess Diana would have been saddened that her sons do not have the same relationship now."

This claim certainly withstands scrutiny: Princess Diana's biographer, Andrew Morton, has previously stated that "Princess Diana saw Harry as a wingman to William, who would have a very lonely and somber job as the future king."

McGrady continued, "Would she have been happy for Harry to leave royal duties?" and "She understood that the queen came first. [It is] purely for the sake of her sons. There is no way she would leave her young sons in England and move to another country. There is no way I would have abandoned my children. I would have had a beach house in Malibu. Yes, absolutely."

Elsewhere, however, Morton contradicted this view. He recently told Us Weekly that Diana would be "overjoyed" about her son being able to build his own life away from the royal family.

Similarly, Stewart Pearce, Princess Diana's former voice coach, once said that if Diana had lived, she would have written her memoirs the way Prince Harry did.

Still, all of this is speculation, as Princess Diana is not here.
