Former Royal Chef Says Prince William and Kate Middleton Should Emulate Princess Diana's Parenting

Queen Elizabeth reportedly "can't stand" Prince William and Kate Middleton spending so much time in the kitchen with their children, but Princess Diana would have been all for it - at least according to late former royal chef Darren McGrady.

"One of the things I've noticed about William is that, like Diana, he and his family love to cook, love to be together, love to do things together," McGrady said in an interview with Coffee Friend (opens in new tab). The full interview was shared with Marie Claire via email). 'They also allow the kids to be kids, like princesses. You will see them eating cookies and making cookies. (And they will attend pizza parties and Beastie Dove.)

For McGrady, this attitude truly reflects Princess Diana's desire for a more down-to-earth lifestyle in the royal family.

"Princess Diana always wanted her children to be more 'normal' by letting them experience things as royal children and as normal children. One look at William and Kate today definitely shows that."

Regarding the princess's own eating style, McGrady said, "When I got with her, she had her life on track and was eating healthy. (Fish dishes, stuffed vegetables, lots of chicken, and fruit-based recipes." [At Kensington Palace, it was much different and much more relaxed. It was less formal, more homey, and all the food was placed on a sideboard for the princess and the boys to feed themselves. If the Princess wanted a cup of coffee, she preferred instant. She would come to the kitchen and make her own coffee and brew it for me." I love it.
