Tuesday was understandably a difficult day for Her Majesty the Queen.

Last April, the funeral of her beloved husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, was held, but due to COVID restrictions at the time, attendance was limited to 30 people. Therefore, a service of thanksgiving was planned for March 29 at Westminster Abbey to allow the many charitable and patronage organizations with which Philip had worked throughout his long life to properly honor and celebrate him. This service was to welcome 1,800 people, in contrast to his funeral, which was scaled back.

At Tuesday's funeral, the Mirror reported, two special items were placed in his handbag to ease His Majesty's mind.

Princess Elizabeth at the time married Philip in 1947 and counted among her favorites the two years they spent on the island of Malta from 1949 to 1951, when Philip was assigned to the Royal Navy. She was just beginning her 70-year reign as queen when King George VI died in February 1952.

Also tucked into her handbag was Philip's trademark white handkerchief, made by Savile Row tailors Kent & Hast. Philip folded the handkerchief into a square in the classic style and placed it in his breast pocket, the Mirror reported.

It was not the only personal touch at the thanksgiving celebration, which took place at the same venue where the Queen and Philip were married many years ago. There were many sentimental touches reminiscent of that special day more than 74 years ago, such as flowers carefully chosen to mimic the Queen's wedding bouquet. Other flowers in the church included patriotic shades of red, white, and blue, as well as a large arrangement of blue eryngiums, known as sea hollies.
