Queen Elizabeth pays sentimental tribute at Prince Philip's memorial service

The Queen made her first public appearance in months at a memorial service for her late husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, one year after his death. According to the Express, Queen Elizabeth paid tribute to the Duke by carrying sentimental mementos in her purse, including a white handkerchief he had used and a photo of the two of them when they were first married.

"The pictures are from when they lived in Malta, they lived there from 1949 to 1951," said Royally US host Christina Garibaldi. It must be from when Prince Philip was stationed in the Navy. It is said to be one of their favorite times together."

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's 73-year marriage began in 1947. While we do not know the exact photograph the Queen brought to the 2022 ceremony, there are more than enough images from their early years together to clearly show how much they cared for each other.

According to People, one particularly romantic image shows the two sharing an intimate glance at their cousin's wedding in 1946, which sparked the first rumors of their romance. When Elizabeth was only 13 years old, she is said to have told her father that Philip was the only man she could ever love

and that he was the only man she would ever love.

At the commemoration, the Queen wore green, the official color of Edinburgh, and an orchid on her brooch as a reminder of her husband.

"I think she's a sentimental person," said Royally US co-host Christine Ross.
