8 types of boots every woman should invest in
Just as you can never have enough white T-shirts, you can never have enough boots. But before you refresh your wardrobe with new shoes, check out your existing style. Do you have all the boots in classic silhouettes? Chelsea boots, waterproof boots, and even new designer ankle boots you can't stop wearing meet this criteria.
It doesn't matter if these boots are given a makeover in trendy colors or different textures-you can still say they're classic by shape and overall fit. But if you're not sure what type of boots you need, or even what boots exist, we've prepared a short and straightforward list of boots you should own (or try on).
Wanting to add some inches to your everyday outfit,' platform boots should be your go-to; the trendy silhouettes adored in the 80s and 90s are everywhere now, so you should have no problem finding a pair you love. Choose from ultra-chunky options to other picks that feature subtle platforms to customize your look. Plus, a reliable pair of platform boots can effectively replace the uncomfortable pair of heels you typically wear on a night out, so that you say goodbye to unwanted ankle and foot pain at the end of the night.
You're most likely going to find that platform ankle boots are the most popular iteration available right now, and they come in every single color you could ever dream of.
This classic boot comes in every heel height and toe shape, but the most distinguishing feature of the Chelsea boot is its black elastic side panels. These shoes often have tabs on the back of the boot that can be easily pulled on. Fun fact: The first of this style was made for Queen Victoria by J. Sparks-Hall in 1851, because the queen wanted boots that were not lace-ups. When they first came out, they were considered trendy and "mod" in England, and over time became a timeless wardrobe staple for both men and women.
Army combat boots, as the name suggests, were initially designed to be worn by soldiers in combat. While the style is still worn by members of the military today, civilians tend to look for more fashionable features (I, personally, wear my combat boots mostly out of the office). Fashionable combat boots still have the same original military elements such as the rounded toe, laces, chunky sole, and high collar. But the designs are more flexible, come in a variety of textures from faux croc to smooth leather, and in every color imaginable.
Speaking of functional footwear, waterproof boots, whether snow boots or rain boots, are always needed to weather winter storms. Waterproof shoes have thankfully come a long way in terms of stylish design, with many companies like Hunter making shoes look more fashionable. (Check out the Chanel rain boots in the street style photo above.) No more having to choose between ugly rain boots that don't get your feet wet or boots that soak your socks.
Unlike ankle boots, thigh-high boots can expose your skin to the harsh winter cold. The classic style features a shaft that hits mid-thigh and often fits the leg, leaving no odd ripples or bumps. Thigh-high boots can be worn with tights, jeans, skirts, dresses, and more, as you've seen on your favorite fashion bloggers and celebrities.
Stiletto boots will never be outdated, even though the kitten heel style has made a comeback in recent seasons. Skinny heels can be incorporated into any shoe style, from Chelsea boots to thigh-high options, and look best when paired with tailored pieces. Think of pin-heel boots as an alternative to pumps for the fall and winter office. Not only does it give you more height, but it also preserves the confidence you normally get from heels. The more we move forward, the more designers look back to the archives for inspiration for shoe silhouettes. One of those silhouettes is the cowboy boot: the cowboy boot continues to be remade each season. Cowboy boots now come in every print, color, and texture except cowhide. This season in particular, you'll find everything from kitten heel options to metallic designs with pointy toe shapes; to channel the Wild Wild West of 2022, here are our picks for western-inspired footwear ahead.
I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of sandals. When the weather gets warmer, I often switch out my winter boots for something a little more skinny. I don't like them because my feet don't get as sweaty as they do when I'm wearing sneakers, and they feel a bit covered up compared to the super-strappy options that flood the market every spring. The choices are endless, from those that are entirely made of mesh to those with slits at the ankle, etc.
