It is well known that the Invictus Games mean a great deal to Prince Harry. This sporting event is held every two years, but had to be postponed from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Duke of Sussex founded the event in 2014, believing that "the power of sport can aid the physical, psychological, and social recovery of injured servicemen and servicewomen." (Harry, of course, is a veteran, having served two tours in Afghanistan and spent 10 years in the British Army.) One person who knows exactly how much this event means to Prince Harry: his wife, Meghan Markle, could be seen on the first day of the event, fiercely holding her husband's hand as he bowed his head emotionally.

Their moment was shared as part of a video honoring the competition, uploaded by the US team's official Invictus social media account:

Later, when Meghan Markle introduced her husband, she revealed how proud she was Harry has also worked late into the night and early into the morning planning for this competition. No one loves and respects Harry more. She concluded: "He is the founder of the Invictus Games and the father of our two little ones, Archie and Lili. Please welcome my wonderful husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex."

In 2016, at the opening ceremony of the second Invictus Games, Prince Harry spoke candidly about his reasons for founding the event: "When I returned from the battlefield on a plane carrying the bodies of a Danish soldier and three young Britons, fighting for their lives, I began to understand the real and lasting I began to understand the real and lasting cost of war. For a long time I joined the Army because I just wanted to be one of the guys. But what I learned through serving was that the special privilege of being a Prince gave me a special opportunity to help military families. That's why I had to found The Invictus Games."
