Queen gets her very own Barbie for her 96th birthday and Jubilee

Today, April 21, Queen Elizabeth II turns 96.

As the Taurus royal celebrates her milestone birthday, remaining the oldest British monarch in the history of the reign, and celebrating the Jubilee year all at once, Mattel of course wanted to commemorate the occasion in style by creating the Queen Elizabeth Barbie.

The doll sells for around $75 (and can be purchased at Target (open in new tab) or Amazon (open in new tab) if interested!) ), and represents the queen in her white gown, blue sash, and her iconic tiara.

Rebecca English of the Daily Mail pointed out that the Barbie was not made to fit the proportions of the queen, but follows standard Barbie sizes.

"We are honored to honor Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her unprecedented 70 years of service with a Barbie doll made in her likeness," said Lisa McKnight, EVP and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls at Mattel. The Queen is the perfect addition to our Barbie Tribute Collection, which aims to honor the accomplishments of a woman who has had a tremendous impact." We are proud to celebrate her historic milestone and encourage children to learn more about her legacy."

The tribute collection also includes a doll representing Lucille Ball (open in new tab). [Historian and royal author Kate Williams writes, "The reign of Queen Elizabeth II has been one of extraordinary influence, and one of the few women to occupy the position. [The longest reigning British monarch and the first to achieve a platinum jubilee, the Queen has dedicated herself to service and duty and has seen the world change immeasurably. [When the Queen ascended the throne in 1952, women were not encouraged to work and politicians were suspicious of young female monarchs, but she proved them wrong, proving herself to be an excellent leader and diplomat.

"As Her Majesty the Queen celebrates this milestone jubilee, it is wonderful that an iconic brand like Barbie is conveying the impact of an important historical female figure as a leader, creator, and pioneer to a new generation."
