Queen Elizabeth, 96: Body Language Expert Discusses Her True Smile, "Wicked Sense of Humor," and Her Relationship with Kate Middleton

Happy Birthday, Her Majesty the Queen! Queen Elizabeth II turns 96 today, April 21, continuing her iconic 70-year reign on the throne.

Reflecting on her unprecedented reign, body language expert Darren Stanton was struck by how pure the Queen always seemed.

"Over the years, the queen has never once seemed to fake an emotion," Stanton told Marie Claire on behalf of Betfair Casino (opens in new tab). The emotion that is most deceiving is a smile, and the queen's always seems genuine. The Queen's smile is very encouraging, and according to people who have met her, the moment she engages with you, you feel as if she has her own force field around her. She is focused only on you and interested in you."

"In all the various royal functions the Queen has attended over the years, there has never been a time when she did not seem genuinely happy to interact and meet with the public and other important people.

But just because "the Queen has always incorporated a sense of authority into her posture" and is not a person of exaggerated emotional expression does not mean she does not know how to have fun.

"While following strict royal protocol, the Queen can also display a wicked sense of humor and appear young at heart, especially when photographed at a horse race.

As for her relationships with various family members, experts note that the Queen seems particularly fond of the Duchess of Cambridge.

"When it comes to her relationships with other royals, it is clear that the Queen has great affection for Kate Middleton," he says. 'Often when they are photographed together, their positions and gestures match and mirror each other's.'

"Not only do they adopt each other's postures, but both royals are known for always showing genuine emotion. She enjoys a similar relationship with William, and I saw this same affection for Harry and Meghan Markle early in their engagement."
