Jada Pinkett Smith, referring to the Will Smith slap incident: "The Smith family is in deep therapy."

Jada Pinkett Smith's Facebook talk show "Red Table Talk" is back for a new season.

The first episode, co-hosted by Jada's mother "Gammy" and daughter Willow, features a vulnerable conversation with Janelle Monaei.

Of course, it would have been difficult to go straight into a new episode without at least mentioning the fact that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards for a joke involving Jada.

Given all the fallout from that slap, the Smiths knew they had to communicate with their audience in a way that made sense to them. They did not say much, but they did say something.

The episode opens with the message, "Given everything that has happened over the past few weeks, the Smith family is focused on deep healing."

"Some of the discoveries surrounding our healing will be shared at the table when the time comes.

"Until then, ...... the dinner table will continue to be as powerful, inspiring, and healing as our incredibly impressive first guests.

"Thank you for joining us."

The message was signed by Jada.

This is the second time the actress has addressed the incident. The first time, she posted on Instagram the simple words, "This is a season of healing and I am here for it."

Shortly after the awards ceremony, the Academy initiated "disciplinary proceedings" against Will Smith. Eventually, according to Vanity Fair, they decided to ban the King Richard actor from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years.

Many celebrities and fans have accused Will's actions of normalizing violence, and the Academy's decision reflects that perspective.
