Will the Sussexes fly to England for the Platinum Jubilee?
Next month will be the royal question of all questions: will they or won't they?
Of course, this is about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and whether they will return to the U.K. for the Queen's historic Platinum Jubilee in early June; on April 14, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's surprise visit to Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle was a tongue twister. Appearing on Today's Hoda Kotb earlier this month, Harry said of his attendance, "I don't know yet. There are security issues and all that. So I'm trying to get the kids to meet her." (Archie, who turns 3 this week, has met the Queen, but has not met her in person since the Sussex Steps in 2020, when he was not yet a year old. Lilibet, named after the Queen's childhood nickname, has never met her namesake in person.)
According to Russell Myers, royal editor of the Daily Mirror, Harry is "already making plans" to attend there, the Daily Express The paper reported. Appearing on the latest episode of "Pod Save the Queen," Myers said that while he is "not sure yet" if Meghan and the children will attend, Harry's entourage is already working to make the trip happen.
"He said he wasn't sure if they would come to the Jubilee, citing security and all that," Myers said.
"My understanding is that his entourage is already making plans for him to come. Whether it will be with Princess Meghan and the children remains to be seen. But Harry himself said he wanted to create an opportunity to resolve the issue so that the children could meet the Queen."[8
According to the Mirror, security workarounds may be put in place to calm Harry's fears. Metropolitan police could offer Harry taxpayer protection for public family events, like the Jubilee.
"Harry loves to see his grandmother again and is acutely aware of her old age."
"He is eager for Lili to meet his great-grandmother and to see her again now that Archie is more likely to enjoy and remember the event.
Appearing on "Pod Save The Queen," Myers said that the Sussexes' attendance at the Jubilee fit their "brand purpose."
"Personally, I think Harry and Meghan want to have that moment with the Royal Family. 'It fits the Sussex brand. I think it fits their purpose brand-wise to be seen with the Queen, to be seen with the Queen and still be royalty. ...... Because it gives them credibility to have a connection to the royal family while looking like they are doing their own thing, on a global scale."
Orrrrrr, they just love their grandmothers and grandmothers-in-law" *shrugs*
