Meggitt is an unfair term, says royal expert

Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, have been blamed for stepping down from active membership in the royal family in January 2020, but that's not fair, says Tina Brown, author of The Palace Papers, which was released this week. It was Harry who wanted to quit the royal family, she says, and Meghan merely gave him the means to do so.

Brown even claims that the Queen knew Harry would go his own way at one point, but only after Harry met Meghan, a former actress who "understood the world of agents and deals," did he actually take the leap. (The two have multi-million dollar contracts with Netflix and Spotify.)

"Someone very close to The Circle told me. 'He was really unhappy. The Queen knew that at some point Harry would likely want to quit. But we didn't expect that to happen so soon, and we didn't expect it to happen in the way that it did."

According to the Mirror, in a video interview with the Washington Post, Brown also added that the term "Meggitt" was unfair because it was Harry who wanted the split all along.

"I think it's true that Meghan is being treated unfairly. I think it was unfair in a way that Meghan was called Meggitt.

Meghan found an educated, worldly, sophisticated strategist who gave Harry "the means to leave," Brown says. 'She understood the world of agents and deals. She understood the world of agents and deals. But he suddenly had a very secular strategist in Princess Meghan, whom he decided to trust more than any other advisor."

Brown added, "I know he wanted to use his talents in a more exciting and imaginative way. But I think there was a lot that could have been accomplished within the royal family," she says.
