The Cambridges' beloved female black cocker spaniel joined the family in late 2020, but the puppy's name was undisclosed until now.
People revealed that the royal doggie is named Aura, which means "golden princess" in Celtic.
Aura recently made headlines when she appeared in one of the portraits released by the palace on Princess Charlotte's seventh birthday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced the sad news that their dog Lupo had died in November 2020. 'Very sadly, our beloved dog Lupo passed away last weekend. He was the center of our family for the last 9 years and we will miss him very much. - W & C," they wrote on Instagram.
Then in January 2021, the Daily Mail reported that Aura (name unknown at the time, as far as the public knew) joined the family shortly before Lupo's death. She was a gift from the Duchess's brother, James Middleton.
"The new puppy is adorable and the whole family is crazy about him," a friend told the Mail at the time. 'They were devastated when Lupo passed away, as anyone who has a dog knows, but they got a new puppy before Lupo passed away. They got a new puppy before Lupo passed away. We hoped that the young dog would stay with Lupo and that Lupo would be a little more lively and energetic."
James Middleton and his now wife Alizee Thevenet are huge animal lovers. The proof is in the pudding: James' Instagram bio reads, "Dog daddy to Ella, Zulu, Inca, Luna, Mabel, and Nala." Aura is one of Luna's puppies.
James is also the founder of the healthy dog food company Ella & Co.
