The Queen makes her first appearance in "Trooping the Colour" on the balcony of Buckingham Palace
It's her.
Queen Elizabeth appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace this morning to cheers celebrating 70 years of her historic coronation.
Today, June 2, also marks the 69th anniversary of the Queen's coronation, which took place on this date in 1953.
Her Majesty wore a pale blue coat dress, believed to be the same one she wore in the official portrait commemorating her platinum jubilee. Her appearance on the balcony was also accompanied by a matching hat and gloves. The portrait, taken by Ranald McKechnie at Windsor Castle last week, is much more restrained than previous Jubilee portraits. She was accompanied on the balcony by her cousin Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.
The appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace followed the annual "Trooping the Colors" parade celebrating Her Majesty's birthday (her actual birthday is in April). Scheduled to appear on the balcony shortly are her son Prince Charles, who saluted his mother on horseback at this morning's Trooping the Colors; Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince William, who rode in this morning's parade with his father and aunt, Princess Anne; white Alexander McQueen dress and a white and blue Philip Treacy hat; Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge; the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis; and other working members of the Royal Family. [According to PEOPLE, Her Majesty the Queen was forced to postpone her landing this week due to thunderstorms after returning from a brief pre-platinum jubilee stay at Balmoral; the pilot of the 13-passenger Queen's private plane was forced to abort the first landing seconds before landing due to lightning, heavy rain and hail. Buckingham Palace said of the incident, "The Queen's flight was delayed due to a thunderstorm. All correct procedures were followed and there were no safety concerns"
.
We will shortly be bringing you a view of the entire family with Her Majesty the Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
