Prince George and Princess Charlotte rejoin Kate Middleton and Prince William and his wife at the platinum party at the Palace
Performers such as Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, Elton John, Duran Duran, and Queen performed for a crowd of 22,000 at Buckingham Palace tonight.
Queen herself was not there due to ongoing travel issues, but she opened the show with a humorous sketch with Paddington Bear. When Paddington Bear said, "I always carry a sandwich," the Queen replied, "Me too," and pulled a sandwich from her handbag. (Now we finally know what she has been carrying all these years!)
"Happy Jubilee, ma'am," she says, tipping her hat, "and thank you for everything." And thank you for everything." *After a busy day in Wales, four Cambridges, not including Prince Louis, sat in the royal box to attend the show: a dazzling Kate Middleton in a white dress, a beautiful Princess Charlotte in a red dress, and a dashing Prince George and Prince William. When Queen and Adam Lambert opened the show with a rendition of "We Are the Champions," they joined the audience in waving Union Jack flags and clapping along to the music throughout the show.
Her Majesty, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle were not in attendance, but many royals were, from Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla of Cornwall to Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and Zara Tindall.
In addition to the lavish performers, there were celebrity hosts who appeared on stage and via video, including Sir David Attenborough, Dame Julie Andrews, David Beckham, and US Open tennis champion Emma Raducanu. In front of Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Monument, three stages were connected by an aisle, "creating a 360-degree experience," PEOPLE reported.
"Beside them are 70 columns of light, symbolizing each of the seven years of Queen Victoria's reign.
And as glittering as tonight's lineup was, perhaps the most moving moment was when Her Majesty's two successors, Charles and William, spoke about the Queen at the event.
"There is optimism and joy and hope tonight," William said, speaking about protecting the planet. If we harness the best of humanity and restore the planet, we will be able to protect it for our children, for our grandchildren, and for future generations."
Prince Charles appeared emotional, paying tribute to both his mother and his father, the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"Your strength and stay this evening will be greatly missed, but I am sure he is here in spirit," Prince Charles said of Philip.
"My dad would have enjoyed this show and would have joined us in a hearty celebration of all that you continue to do for your country and its people."
Prince Charles encouraged the crowd to cheer loud enough for the Queen at Windsor Castle to hear.
"On behalf of all of us, I would like to pay tribute to your lifetime of selfless service. Your family spans four generations. You are our head of state. And you are our mother."
Tomorrow, the Platinum Jubilee Pageant will conclude the four-day Platinum Jubilee celebration. Ed Sheeran will perform the finale and the national anthem will be sung.
