Kate Middleton's birthday portrait is a "homecoming" to Prince William and her college.
In the fullness of time! Kate Middleton's 40th birthday portraits will be on display for a limited time at the university where she met Prince William.
One of three photographs by Paolo Roversi, released for the Duchess of Cambridge's 40th trip around the sun, in which she is wearing a stunning red gown and smiling happily for the camera, was taken from the National Portrait Gallery in London to It was transported to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
The university was a major factor in the young Middleton's eventual entry into the royal family in 2011, as it played a major role in her becoming a member of the royal family.
The school's museum account wrote on Twitter, "We love having former students visit us, so we are excited to welcome Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - in portrait form - to the Wardlaw Museum. This portrait was taken by Paolo Roversi to celebrate the Duchess's 40th birthday and is on loan from @NPGLondon."
The portraits, which will be on display in St. Andrews beginning June 12, are part of the National Portrait Gallery's "Coming Home" project, which brings various portraits "back home" to places that have a deep connection to each person.
"St. Andrews was chosen in consultation with Catherine, Princess of Wales, and is where she met her future husband, William," the press release states.
"The Duchess of Cambridge has been a very keen patron of the National Portrait Gallery since 2012 and has a great interest in photography and portraiture," said Nicholas Callinan, the gallery's director.
"We are delighted to be able to share Paolo Roversi's wonderful portraits as part of the "Coming Home" project in resonant locations across the UK for Her Royal Highness.
