Here's an inspiring reason not to call the Queen "Lilibet."

Prior to June 2021, only devout royalists would have heard the name "Lilibet."

As a child, Lilibet was Her Majesty's childhood nickname, "adopted by the Queen's grandparents and parents as a favorite nickname during her childhood, when the Queen had difficulty pronouncing her own name, and was named Lilibet instead," the Mirror reported.

The name became well known in pop culture to royal followers and beyond when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to name their daughter Lilibet Diana, after the Queen and of course the late Princess of Wales. She was born on June 4, 2021.

However, it may surprise you to learn that no one calls the Queen "Lilibet" anymore.

The Queen's late husband, Prince Philip (who died in April 2021 at age 99), was the last person to use this nickname. He had known Her Majesty since he was a child and, like his family, called her by her nickname. Now that Philip has passed away and all the older family members who knew the Queen as a child are gone, the nickname is left to Philip, the magazine reported.

According to the Daily Star (via the Mirror), Princess Elizabeth at the time often signed her letters as "Lilibet," including a thank-you note to her grandmother, Queen Mary. She also unpacked the dining room and hall. Love from Lilibet xxx.

Her Majesty's beloved father, King George VI, said, "Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy," he is quoted as saying, referring to the Queen's sister, Princess Margaret

.

Touchingly, the Queen apparently signed a handwritten note left on the Duke of Edinburgh's coffin at his funeral last April with a poignant note from Lilibet. The couple had been married for over 73 years.

However, the Queen still has another nickname. For Prince Charles, the Queen is "Mummy," and "Prince Charles called her this in his speech on the Queen's 92nd birthday, and the Queen rolled her eyes and laughed as she entertained her audience," the Mirror reported. Prince William and Prince Harry were seen cheering on their "grandmother" when her stunt double parachuted into the stadium during the 2012 London Olympics. And the Duchess of Cambridge revealed that Prince George and Princess Charlotte call their great-grandmother "Gungans."
