Prince Harry Claims "The Crown" Doesn't Cover His Relationship with Meghan Markle, Who is Retiring from Senior Royalty, Expert Says
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently signed a lucrative deal with Netflix, but that doesn't mean the streaming service will feature their story in The Crown.
Harry has reportedly "insisted" that Netflix not include him and Meghan stepping down from their senior royal roles, says royal expert Angela Levine. When I met Harry at Kensington Palace, the first question he asked me was, 'Are you watching The Crown? Angela said so on talk radio earlier this week, according to Mirror UK." I mumbled, "Do you and the rest of the royal family?" I said."
He said, "Yes, we're all absolutely watching the whole thing, but I'm going to insist they stop before it gets to me." Harry and Meghan admitted to watching some of the acclaimed drama in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the Duke of Sussex provided further background: they ("The Crown") are not pretending to be news. They are fiction. But they are loosely based on truth. I am much more comfortable watching "The Crown" than I am watching stories written about my family, my wife, or myself. The Crown" is obviously fiction, and you can take it however you want, but "The Crown" is reported as fact. I have a real problem with that."
Regardless of Harry's stance, series showrunner Peter Morgan has already said he has no plans to reach the present day with the show." Megan and Harry are on a journey, and I don't know what their journey is or how it will end," he told The Hollywood Reporter. 'But it's much easier for me to write about something that happened at least 20 years ago. I have a 20-year rule in my head. That's enough time and distance to really understand something, understand its role, understand its position, understand its relevance."
