Is it true that Hugh Grant will play Prince Andrew in the new movie?
A new movie about the royal family is in the works, based on that infamous (and disastrous) BBC interview Prince Andreu gave about his friendship with Geoffrey Epstein in 2019. If that wasn't enough to get your attention, Deadline reported that Hugh Grant is in the running to play the disgraced prince.
Well, not so fast. When asked about rumors that he was in the running for the role, Grant told The Independent, "I haven't heard anything." The actor also responded to a deleted tweet about a possible casting by saying, "No, I haven't. Never heard of it."
Perhaps that just means he hasn't heard anything yet. Producer Hilary Salmon told Deadline that casting for Scoop has not yet begun. Salmon acknowledged that she is, of course, "thinking" about who she would like to see cast, but added that "no one is set in stone" and did not comment on the Hugh Grant question.
Screenwriter Peter Moffat told Deadline that the new film will cover "how the BBC's 'Newsnight' team got the scoop and the actual shooting." Another big question the film will address, according to Moffat, is why Prince Andrew was interviewed in the first place. Said Moffat, "Why did he decide it was a good idea to do a big long interview with Emily Maitlis on the BBC?"
In the actual interview, commonly referred to as the "car crash," Prince Andrew claimed that he could not sleep with Virginia Giuffre, as she claimed, because he was going to Pizza Express at the time. She also claimed that she could not sweat it. According to The Independent, this mishap was the direct result of the prince being stripped of his military titles and royal duties.
