Every once in a while, a biography comes along that shakes a member of the Royal Family to the core.

Such was the case a few months ago with Tina Brown's The Palace Papers, and again with Tom Bower's Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War of the Windsors (opens in new tab), released in the UK on July 21 and already generating considerable controversy

Bower has been known for his incendiary portraits of subjects such as Prince Charles and Simon Cowell. Revenge is expected to reveal elements of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's marriage and departure from the royal family that they may not want to reveal, explains royal expert Christine Ross.

"Bower has talked to some really interesting and unique sources for the book, giving us insights and access that we have not seen before," Ross told Marie Claire.

"The book seems to be more about how Meghan and Harry have evolved their stardom than a retelling of their relationship with the royal family. Bower shows how Meghan and Harry wanted to live their lives and reveals how that went wrong and changed over the course of two years.

For Ross, the Sussexes would not be pleased with the attention that "Revenge" is receiving in anticipation of its release.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shown us time and time again that they want to control the narrative about their lives and work.

"The book seems to have generated a lot of interest on a topic that even the most ardent royal watchers were growing tired of. If he spoke to sources who worked closely with the Sussexes, such as Sarah Latham (open in new tab), then surely a new and interesting story will be told."

Latham served as communications director for the Sussexes until his retirement from royal duties in April 2019, and currently works as a special projects advisor for the Royal Household.
