Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Not Invited to Balmoral with Queen After All, Sources Say

Anonymous sources say it's a daily reminder to take with a pinch of salt.

One source previously told The Sun that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, had been invited to the Queen's Scottish retreat, Balmoral Castle, for the summer, but apparently the source was wrong.

Several other sources (unless, perhaps, the original source changed his mind? Thus, they are not likely to go to Scotland for haggis and whiskey (better spelled "whiskey" if they want to blend in with the locals).

In case you missed it, one of The Sun's sources said, "Staff have been told to expect the full list of royals, including Harry, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet. They are preparing for the Sussex family. Balmoral is the perfect place for them to spend a little quality time with the Queen."

But even if they were invited, another source told The Sun, "they would be stunned if they showed up."

We don't know what really happened behind the scenes, and really only an official statement from a member of the royal family, or, barring that, an actual person showing up at Balmoral, can confirm these rumors.

My very unprofessional hypothesis is that if the Sussex family was invited and refused, it may have been some sort of embarrassment to the Queen and other senior royals. So perhaps those close to the family think it best to make it sound as if the Sussexes were not welcome in the first place. Again, this is just a hypothesis.

Since the Sussexes' departure from the royal family in 2020, relations between the California-based royal family and other families have been strained. The Sussexes made their first official appearance together in the UK during the Queen's Jubilee ceremony, and were apparently hurt by the reception they received.

Among the guests leaving St. Paul's Cathedral after the thanksgiving service, only Zara Tindall was seen interacting with Harry and Meghan. Over the weekend, the Queen reportedly got to meet Lili, but the Cambridges did not attend her first birthday party. Other than that, they are engaged, and Prince William is reportedly in no hurry to reconcile with his brother, although he had ample excuse to do so.
