Meghan Markle and her father Thomas are no longer related (at least as far as we know), largely due to Thomas' collaboration with the tabloids around the time of his daughter's wedding.

Both men want it to appear that they are the ones hurt in this scenario, and their stories contradict each other to some extent. We don't know exactly what is true and what is not, but Princess Meghan is at least modest in the media, while Thomas has a habit of publicly saying things that hurt his daughter.

For royal commentator Roya Nikka, pushing her side of the story is exactly what Thomas has done again through Tom Bower's bombastic biography "Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War of the Windsors" (opens in new tab).

"He obviously talks at length with Thomas Markle, and we get a better understanding of Meghan's upbringing and the time she spent with her father from Thomas Markle's perspective," Nikka said on Royal Beat (via Express). [because] what is portrayed today as a very close relationship is, of course, the relationship between Meghan and her mother, but in reality, she lived with her father for a large part of her childhood and teenage years, and Doria was not around much.

"So I think Thomas used the book as a kind of platform to try to reconstruct his side of the story."

In "Revenge," Thomas portrays himself as a loving father who would do anything for Meghan. He recalls that when Meghan was born, he said, "It was love at first sight."

Bower writes, "In Meghan's first weeks, her father redecorated the family bathroom in their comfortable three-story house in Woodward Hills with angels and fairies. That look on Meghan's face was priceless," recalls his son from a previous marriage, Tom Jr. Seeing Thomas holding Meghan, Tom Jr. could see that his father was infatuated: he loved Princess Meghan more than anyone else in the world. She became his little princess all his life."

According to Bower and Thomas Markle, after Meghan met Harry, the father-daughter relationship soured.
