It's no secret that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure from royal life has caused its own share of drama over the past two and a half years.

And while on the surface the royal family was "fully supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to build a new life as a young family," it seems that there was already bad blood at the time of their departure, long before the Sussex couple gave an interview to Oprah.

At least that's what Tom Bower claims in his new biography, Revenge: Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors (opens in new tab ), Tom Bower makes at least that claim. In it, he describes what the Sussexes' last few days of royal life were like back in 2020, and it doesn't look pretty.

"Reality struck two days later, on March 9," Bower writes. A monumental altercation broke out after Harry and Meghan were told they could not join the family's procession through Westminster Abbey for the annual Commonwealth Day service"

"According to the order of service, Harry and Meghan were to walk behind the Queen, but palace officials amended that decision. Suspicious of the Sussex family, they decided to publicly humiliate them.

"Harry was told that he would be relieved of his royal duties and that he and Meghan would sit and wait with the congregation. They were horrified when the two were shown on television isolated in the abbey.

The Cambridges were reportedly not too fond of the Sussexes, but decided to sit together to avoid further conflict.

"Eventually, to end the conflict, William and Kate agreed that they too would wait with Harry and Meghan," Bower continues.

"When members of the royal family entered the convent, the strained relationship could not be hidden. Kate gave the Sussexes a blank look, and William's greeting was cold. Harry looked nervous. Princess Meghan looked bemused.

Sadly, things only got worse from there, and tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry seemed to be at an all-time high.
