Read MoreMarie Claire recently reported that the release date for Prince Harry's long-awaited memoir may finally be set.
Richard Kay of The Daily Mail writes that there is anxiety within the court that Harry will use the book to settle the score. It has been 30 years since Harry's mother, Princess Diana, published "Diana: Her True Story" in collaboration with Andrew Morton. And 30 years later, Kay writes, "Princess Diana's son will follow in his mother's footsteps with a memoir that will shock the world, just as Princess Diana did."
"Naturally," Kay continues, "there is considerable anxiety around Buckingham Palace that Harry will use the memoir to settle scores with his family and senior courtiers. They are particularly nervous about Harry's attitude toward his stepmother, the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duchess of Cornwall is the woman many supporters of the late Princess of Wales still blame for the breakup of the marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
Kay writes that five years ago, "long before he thought about writing a book," Harry asked Princess Diana's friends to share their memories and private photos of her. Kaye wrote, "Initially, he said it was because his own memories were a little shaky," adding that Harry was particularly interested in the breakdown of his parents' marriage. Kay wrote, "At least one of us discussed Camilla at length with him."
"It was clear he didn't think highly of her," the friend later told Kay. He didn't speak very highly of her, and I find it very hard to believe that he has forgotten what we talked about that day."
These meetings with Diana's friends convinced Harry of his mother's unfair treatment by the media as well as the royal establishment.
"Of course, the most notable passages in the book are undoubtedly those in which Harry writes about his brother," Kay writes. This issue is likely to be the most controversial because of its importance to the long-term health of the monarchy."
Kay writes that it has been suggested that Harry's memoir has been delayed to avoid a conflict with former first lady Michelle Obama's latest book, due out November 15. Harry's book will be juicy but serious and chilling, Kay writes. Interviews with Harry, he writes, were almost finished by the beginning of the year, just before the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June.
"Will the anger that has colored so many of Harry's public statements still be visible," or will this clever writer (Harry's ghostwriter, J.R. Moehringer) represent a thoughtful and mature prince? Kay asks. 'And Kay asks.'
